Dear Trinity Family,
Psalm 71: 14: “I will hope continually, and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all day long.”
I shared the following news during our worship service this morning and want to communicate this to anyone who was not able to attend. I have been offered and have accepted the position of senior pastor at Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg. This new appointment will become effective July 1, 2014. My last Sunday at Trinity will be June 16th.
It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with you. It has been a true honor and highest of privilege to serve as your pastor these past fourteen years. My family will always have a special place in our hearts for this special church community. In the United Methodist Church we have what is known as an itinerant system of appointment. That is pastors are appointed by the bishop and serve until moved to a different appointment. This is different than some denominations that use what is known as a “call system” where the congregation votes on the selection of the pastor. I agreed to be itinerant at the time I entered ministry in June of 1988. Yet beyond our system of appointment, I believe this is God’s call at this time in my life. As I have sought to convey over these years together, it is God‘s call that we are ultimately to heed. I seek to honor that call by accepting this appointment at this time.
The new pastor for Trinity will be announced soon. The Bishop and his cabinet spend a lot of time in prayerful discernment as these appointments are made. I am sure God will rise up the person who is best suited to lead you in your future ministries. She or he will have a wonderful opportunity to share in some great experiences as you walk together in serving Christ. I thoroughly believe Trinity’s best days lay ahead and you will offer great ministries that will continue to make a difference in our community and world.
I look forward to experiencing the Lenten, Easter and Pentecost seasons with you. I join you in seeking to daily serve God as we walk together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
